The 2026 Moreau Leaving Scholarship selection process once again demonstrated the exceptional quality and breadth of applicants. Following the initial applications and nominations, the Selection Panel met with the candidates and subsequently with those who had sponsored them, before undertaking a final round of interviews with a shortlist of outstanding candidates. The strength of the field made the final decision particularly difficult, but two candidates stood out as deserving recipients: Nic Urquhart-Pearce and Charlie Timmons.
Both Nic and Charlie exemplify the qualities the Scholarship seeks to recognise, combining a strong commitment to Framlingham, a deep appreciation of their friendships and year-group, and a clear desire to remain connected to and contribute to the Framlingham and Old Framlinghamian communities.
Nic, who has been at Framlingham since Nursery, has made the most of opportunities across sport and academia, representing the College in rugby, hockey and cricket and developing a particular interest in sport and exercise science. He will continue his studies at Loughborough University. Charlie joined the College in the Sixth Form as a rugby scholar and, despite an early injury, went on to represent the First XV, alongside studying Biology, Psychology and PE. He plans to study Biomedical Science at the University of Bristol following a year travelling in Australia and New Zealand.
The importance both place on maintaining the connections formed at Framlingham was particularly evident in their applications. As Moreau Scholars, Nic and Charlie are keen to help keep their year group connected as they move on to universities, careers and different parts of the world, while creating opportunities for their peers to return to Framlingham and to one another.
Their appointment was formally marked at Speech Day, where Nic and Charlie received their Moreau Leaving Scholarship awards, providing a fitting conclusion to the year’s selection process and the beginning of their three-year involvement with the Society.

The Society is also grateful to Archie Winter (Moreau Scholar 2018–21) and Cam Greenhall (Moreau Scholar 2016–19), who have taken up their roles as mentors to the new Scholars. Archie graduated from Exeter University in 2021 before spending a year playing hockey in Melbourne. He has since returned to London, where he has worked for the past four years and is now at JP Morgan, while continuing to play hockey for Old Loughtonians and golf as part of the OF Halford Hewitt team. Cam, also a long-standing contributor to the Society, brings his experience from his current role at Framlingham College, where he is currently Assistant Director of Sport. Their willingness to support Nic and Charlie is an important part of the Scholarship’s continuing commitment to developing relationships between successive generations of Scholars.
The year also marks a transition for the Scholarship Selection Panel, where David Mallett (K93-03) is stepping down from the Chairman role, with Nick Whitehead (K06-11) taking over. Thanks are due to all members of the Selection Panel, being David, Nick, Jenny Binder, René Bahar and Ele Williamson.
The Society also records its appreciation to Peter Howard-Dobson (R65-69) for his longstanding work in establishing and developing the Moreau mentoring programme. Peter is now stepping back from his role in coordinating the programme, with David Mallett taking this responsibility forward.
