MOREAU LEAVING SCHOLAR

Nic Urquhart-Pearce

2026 - 2029

I have been part of Framlingham College since 2010, when I joined Brandeston (Framlingham College Prep School) in Nursery, before moving through Red House and eventually joining Rendlesham at the College. Over nearly sixteen years, Framlingham has given me countless opportunities to develop both inside and outside the classroom, and I have always tried to make the most of them and contribute fully to the school community.

Sport has been a huge part of my life at Fram. I have represented the College since Year 3 in rugby, hockey, cricket, athletics and swimming, and have represented academies and counties in rugby, hockey and cricket. Some of my favourite opportunities have included travelling to Northampton Saints training and training with the First XI from Year 9. These experiences have given me a real interest in sport and exercise science, which I hope to pursue at Loughborough University. I studied Biology, PE and Business at A-level and completed an EPQ exploring the extent to which a person’s capacity to excel in sport is influenced by genetics.

Beyond sport, I have enjoyed being involved in many different aspects of College life. As a member of the Debating Society, I often deliberately argue a position opposite to my own, which has helped me understand different perspectives on subjects ranging from politics and budgets to embryonic research. I have also completed my Duke of Edinburgh Award from Bronze through to Gold and served as a PE A-level Subject Ambassador and Academic Prefect. In the latter role, I have been particularly interested in how the College can better support pupils who balance academic work with commitments in sport, music, drama and other activities.

Giving back to others has also become an important part of my time at Framlingham and in the wider community. For the past five years I have volunteered as a swimming assistant at my local leisure centre, helping younger children develop their swimming skills and, importantly, their confidence. I have also coached hockey at MT13, enjoying the opportunity to pass on what I have learnt to younger players while continuing to learn from more experienced coaches myself. These experiences have strengthened my confidence and communication skills and shown me how rewarding it can be to help others develop.

Receiving the Moreau Scholarship means a huge amount to me because it provides an opportunity to continue giving something back to a school that has been such a significant part of my life. I have built strong friendships and connections during my time at Framlingham, and I am particularly excited about helping to maintain those relationships within our year group as we move on to different universities, careers and places. Charlie and I want to help keep everyone connected, while also creating opportunities for our year group to return to Framlingham, come together and enjoy the friendships we have made.

I am looking forward to studying Sports and Exercise Science at Loughborough and, in the longer term, hope to build a business incorporating AI and nutrition. Whatever the future brings, I want to carry the spirit of Framlingham with me and continue to support the College and its community. Framlingham has been a huge part of who I am, and I am proud to have the opportunity through the Moreau Scholarship to continue that connection beyond my time at the College.
