Andrew Lister Cope (R78-86)

  • When

  • Where
    Alicante, Spain
  • Age
    49

Andrew Lister Cope (R78-86) died of cancer at the age of 49 in Alicante Spain.  He leaves a sister Sanita who paid the following tribute :

Andrew was bom in Aldershot and died of cancer on 15th August 2017 in San Juan, Alicante, Spain.

He grew up in Hong Kong. When he left Framlingham, distraught at being rejected by the RAF (his boyhood dream), solely due to episodes of migraines suffered many years previously, he moved on to working in a selection of jobs including selling electricals, repairing computer circuit boards and even putting in a stint as a Pizza Hut chef in London. In 1993, realising he should be making more of his life, and following in the footsteps of his best friend, he went to Staffordshire University and graduated in 1996 with a degree in Valuation Surveying.Andrew then joined his friend’s firm, Naylors Chartered Surveyors in Newcastleupon- Tyne. In 2001 he decided to follow sunny skies – and the first of many Spanish girlfriends – to Alicante, where he acquired fluency in Spanish and a foothold in the competitive market of real estate. He worked first for Blue Med Realty and then for Solvia Bank before setting up on his own in 2014, founding New Life Spain, and selling prestigious properties to international clients.

Andrew never married, but he was never without a girlfriend.

A keen sportsman all his life, he made the most of the outdoor lifestyle in Spain – including hiking and mountain-biking in the hills around his home. He also loved motorbikes and was planning a motorbike trip to North Africa when he became ill. Andrew travelled extensively throughout his life – from school holidays in the Far East to his last trip to Cuba. He always enjoyed experiencing other cultures and photographing daily life in the countries he visited.

One of his passions in life was woodwork, an interest sparked off at school and which became an obsession in later life. He collected discarded wood pallets and apple crates and then up-cycled them into beautiful pieces of furniture, each individually designed and hand-crafted, as well as spectacular models of boats and planes. His sister, Sarita Ouldzaouche, kindly put together this tribute.
