Overview
The Society of Old Framlinghamians, founded in 1900, remains steadfast in the vision of its founders: to uphold and promote the interests of the School, to nurture lifelong bonds among its former pupils, and to strengthen the ties that unite past and present generations of the Framlingham family.
It is notable that the Societies’ founders chose to speak of “members of the School” rather than “members of the Society”. In doing so, they affirmed a broader, more enduring mission—one that transcends the boundaries of a simple alumni organisation. In this spirit, the Society has always welcomed staff into its fellowship, whether as Associate or Honorary Members, in recognition of their devoted service to the College.
I. Promotion Of The Interests Of The College
Our commitment to the School has been wide-ranging and lasting: through appeals and bequests, through the stewardship of gifts and investments, and through the funding of prizes, scholarships, and transformative projects. Among its most enduring legacies are the gift of Brandeston Hall, presented as a living memorial to those who gave their lives in two World Wars; the contribution of £220,000, together with a far-reaching campaign among its members, in support of the Sixth Form Centre; the creation of The Fowler Pavilion, made possible through a generous bequest; and, most recently, a donation of £300,000 in January 2021 to advance the College’s “Vision 2025” project. II. Maintenance Of Contact Between Members
Our efforts to help people to keep in touch with each other also takes many forms, including this website, annual and occasional publications, and our financial and other support for our specialist sports and vocational groups – for Golf, Shooting and The Arts, all of which have dedicated pages on this website.
III. Encouragement of Contact Between Past and Present Members of The College
One of the ways in which we seek to promote engagement between past and present members of the School is through our Moreau Leaving Scholarships, which has its own section under the “About us” menu. We also fund a wide range of prizes and awards for presentation each Speech Day. If you’d like to read more about this, please click on the link in the Speech Day Prizes box to the right.
