College PHAB Club wins award

Chris Sneath (K51-56) had been a charity trustee of PHAB for over 40 years when in 2020 he worked with Mark Robinson (Deputy Head at the College at the time) and PHAB to set up and launch a Club at the College, just before lockdown came.

The Charity was formed to integrate the physically handicapped with able bodied people and whose ideals and aims have spread through 150 clubs throughout the country. Over the past few years, PHAB has been concentrating on developing clubs through Colleges and Schools. It enables youngsters of today to understand disability and hopefully in later years can maintain this knowledge through their trust and help.

The College has built an inclusive community through their Phab Club, involving volunteers from Years 11, 12 and 13 and at the end of 2025 they had the honour to receive the Lord Morris Award.  Lord Morris of Manchester was the Vice President of Phab whose work led to the first disability rights legislation; the 1970’s Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, and became the UK’s first minister for disabled people in 1974. He dedicated his life to campaigning for better rights for disabled people and transformed not only the lives of millions of disabled people but also changed the attitudes of society towards disabled people.

This award in his name recognises outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of Phab’s inclusion values through schools, colleges and universities.

In 2025 the College developed a partnership with Mills Meadow Care Home which has been incredibly successful.  The citation reads “They have now taken their mission even further by forming a unique partnership with a local retirement home. Each week around 20 Sixth Form pupils visit residents to share activities like bingo, chair dancing, arts and crafts, and sing-alongs. These sessions spark joy and conversation, bridging generations and creating a true sense of family. Residents light up with every visit, and pupils gain confidence and the joy of giving back.

The College also encourages volunteering at Phab’s summer residentials, and pupils regularly share their experiences in school assemblies, inspiring others to get involved and champion inclusion.”

Above is a photo of the Staff and PHAB team that got together in February 2026 to celebrate the Teams win of the Lord Morris Trophy. The picture was taken at Mills Meadow Care Home in Framlingham, where they were joined with a number of pupils who regularly visit the Home as part of the Fram/Phab ideology.

The Framlingham College Phab Club continue to meet weekly at Mills Meadow Care Home part of Care UK, and spend an hour or so with the care home residents. Activities such as chair aerobics, various crafts, show and tell, bingo, bake-off competitions, and always a good sing-a-long.  The key contact at the College is Ade Bloore on abloore@framlinghamcollege.co.uk 07775 557 354.
