OFGS Spring Meeting at Woodbridge GC on Tuesday 12th May 2026

OFGS Spring Meeting at Woodbridge GC on Tuesday 12th May 2026

22 members attended this meeting of 18 holes individual stableford golf on a sunny but breezy day, avoiding the rain which came in the early evening.

The course was in good condition despite the long dry spell, but the breeze and fast running fairways made accuracy important.

Winner of the Captain’s Prize a deluxe bottle of red wine, the Captain’s Cup and golf balls was Andy Rose on 44 points.

Winner of the Minter Cup for best scratch score of 31 points, but also winning golf balls for the best stableford score in Division 1 on 37 points, was Jonny Newton.

Barry Hitchcock 35 points and Ian Bryce 33 points were respectively second in Divisions 1 and 2, winning golf balls.

The prizes were presented after a tasty lunch of Beef and Ale Pie and a Meringue Roulade and Berry compote.

Then followed the AGM conducted by Secretary, David Turnbull and Captain, James Blyth.

David Turnbull announced his retirement as Secretary at the end of 2026 after 20 years in post.

At present no-one has volunteered to take on this position.

Also, no new Captain has so far been found for 2027.

Jonny Newton has remained as team captain for the Hewitt team, Hugh Curle for the Cyril Gray and Harvey Finbow for the Grafton Morrish.

John Ellerby will continue as “Reporting accountant”.

Our thanks to all of them.

Before closing the meeting James thanked David for his 20 years for running the OFGS so efficiently and conscientiously.
