Richard Sayer (S56-61) writes: The second annual OF Seniors lunch at The Plough and Sail, Snape, was enjoyed by 39 OFs and their partners, the original 46 having suffered health and other pressing reasons for dropping out. We were grateful to our host Alex Burnside for kindly keeping the cost the same as last year at £40 per head and to the College for generously funding pre-lunch bar drinks.
A number of OFs journeyed from afar including Andrew Wright and Roger Marriott who won the ‘most devoted’ category for travelling by car up and back in the day from Kent. Andrew presented to Martin Myers-Allen, representing the College, a 1962/63 Ashes Tour presentation sheet signed by all the English touring team including our own David Larter. Martin will place the memento in the Larter display cabinet in the Fowler Pavilion. See picture below of Andrew Wright with former headmaster Paul Taylor.
Norman Porter launched his forthcoming Homage to (OF) Heroes book with flyers and an exhortation for pre-production funding from OFs. Norman’s initial draft shows this to be a worthy addition to the Porter canon, deserving of our full support. See poster below
We warmly welcomed distinguished friends of the Society Trish Mayhew and Jill Kerr, and SOF College Co-ordinator Lucy Garrard who was thanked for her great help in organising the event.
