Martin Myers-Allen (Hon OF & VP) writes : With his vast collection of props and his enthusiastic, theatrical approach, Adrian brought history to life in unforgettable ways. A passionate reenactor, he brought drama and authenticity to the school grounds, captivating pupils and staff alike.
Many will fondly remember the encampments of Anglo-Saxons, Celts, and Vikings that took over the grounds. These historical reenactments often showcased traditional skills—cooking, weaving, sharpening weapons, fletching arrows, and practicing archery. Occasionally, a staged disagreement would erupt, leading to mock battles that thrilled the children and fired their imaginations. Adrian’s creativity and energy made learning an adventure, and he was truly adored. His classroom was a veritable museum.
He joined the staff at Brandeston Hall in 2010 and once described his role as his “dream job.” Although ill health eventually brought an end to both his teaching and reenactment activities, his impact on the school community remains deeply appreciated.
The prep school considers itself incredibly fortunate to have had Adrian as part of its teaching staff for four years, and every moment of his time with us is remembered with immense gratitude. He is one of the most remarkable teachers I have ever met!
When I presented Adrian with his Hon OF tie on the 19th of September, he still had that unmistakable twinkle in his eye and spoke with great passion—and his trademark enthusiasm—about his time at the school.
We wish him happiness, and all the very best for the future.
