The Earl & Countess arrived at mid-day to be greeted by flag-waving children from Brandeston, and were then entertained in the Chapel by members of the Choir and Choral Society.
They then moved down to the Athlone Hall, where Tony Lawrence introduced two carefully selected and highly entertaining scenes from Les Miserables, which will be the first production in the new theatre.
The Earl was very complimentary about the quality of the production, saying something along the lines, “if you’re this good two weeks before the opening, then you’re going to be brilliant by opening-night”.
Also at the opening were two executors of the Stanley Porter Will Trust – without whose help the project would not have been possible.
