Society offers financial support to ensure “Homage to Heroes” is published

This amazing book has been extensively researched and written by Norman Porter (K50-57) and is being designed by Chris Keeble (S53-59).  The Society is hugely grateful to them and has agreed to ensure that this resulting book does get published.

The book covers the Framlingham VCs and heroism itself and takes pride in the College, in Old Framlinghamians, and in the heroic qualities latent in so many human beings.  The scope of the book has become so much more than that. It examines the ethos of education and of Framlingham College at different times in history. It attempts to define what it is that makes a hero, in evolving historical circumstances. It looks at the huge supporting pyramid of men and women below the apex that the VC represents, human beings who have, in some way, given much of themselves, up to and including life itself, in the service of others.

We are very grateful to all OFs who have already pre-subscribed for a copy of the book, but we would like to encourage more to do so, now the Society has guaranteed that the book will get published.

We all have our own heroes, possibly friends, possibly family members, possibly teachers, possibly someone we have never personally known. We invite all who would like to pay homage to a hero of their choosing to support this venture with an advance subscription of £20 – or more (please!). Postage £5 extra. That subscription will bring you a copy of the book, which we plan to publish in mid-2026. You can also have a mention in the book, your name coupled to a dedication (around 20 words) to a hero, Framlinghamian or otherwise, of your choice.
