Lt Colonel Charles Augustus Edwards (1873-1874)

He greatly distinguished himself during the last 5 years of his life by fighting operations against the slave traders in British Central Africa. The warlike Yao tribesmen thought he had magical properties! At the age of 32 was the youngest Lt Colonel in the Indian Army. He died in 1897 of Blackwater Fever in Zomba, Malawi at the age of 33 and his brother officers erected the earliest memorial in the Chapel.
