John Patrick FERRIS
Died on 18th April 2004. He was buried on 29th April in Islington Cemetery after a service at Christchurch, Crouch End Hill, London N8. Michael Pemberton (G 57-68) attended the funeral. Educated at St. Pauls School and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, John was one of the original masters at Brandeston when it opened in 1948, teaching English and History. He left Brandeston in 1961 and moved to Lymington, Bournemouth, to care for his sick mother, and never returned to teaching. He then moved to London where he supervised the work on two volumes for the History of Parliament. This is an ongoing, massive undertaking and John was responsible for the reigns of James I (1603-1625) and Charles II (1660-1685). He was very actively involved in the life and work of Christchurch for the twenty or so years he lived there, before retiring to the country near Cambridge. After leaving Brandeston he always kept in contact with his former colleagues John and Wendy Pemberton and their son Michael.
