David Graham SPENCER(R60-65)
1947-2003
On 10 October 2003 at Lincoln county Hospital from Bronchial Carcinoma, aged 56. Twin brother of SIMON SPENCER (R 60-65) and younger brother of MICHAEL SPENCER (R51-58).
David was the twin brother of Simon and very unusually they shared the house captaincy of Rendlesham in 1965. David won an Arts award for a pen and ink drawing of the Chapel which is believed to be hanging somewhere in the College.
He was granted an Essex County Major Scholarship and graduated from Brighton College with a B.Sc. (Hons) and then worked for the Marconi/GEC/Plessey Group for most of his career. In his specialised field of antenna arrangements in microwave technology he was a leading authority with twelve inventions and patents to his name.
He had a passion for classic motor cars and was a member of the 500 Club as a result of his ownership and restoration of the formula 500 racing marque, Erskine Staride. Eight were built of which only four are believed to be still in existence. His research and papers on the marque are considered priceless and will be preserved in the Club archives.
