OF Golf Society v College 2017

IMG_5092 - small
Hugh Curle, Captain of OFGS, reports : The match v the College was played on Friday, 6th October at Aldeburgh Golf Club. It was a great success and tight matches ensued, with impressive golf, particularly from the College pupils. The match was drawn six all, a great advert for College golf and the progress being made under the tutorship of Dougal Lyon. It was great to see two young ladies in the College team, Lisa Jacobs and Katy Bornova.

Next OF Northern Croquet Competition Delayed

Northern Gathering A 31-7-16 (170x129)
Douglas Thomson (K53-61) writes : "The next Northern Gathering has had to be delayed until 2019 unless an OF living in the North would like to organise one in 2018.

My excessive, but very enjoyable, playing of hockey and squash is now showing up in my joints!  I never played to lose! I am currently in line for two replacement shoulders; followed possibly by one hip and one knee.  If all these are replaced I expect to not only ring the bell at airport security but blow the fuse as well!

My apologies for this but I need to keep my diary fairly free at present."

2016 Northern Gathering : The sun shone (well Cumbria style), the fare was good, the wine flowed, the conversation was very pleasurable and even the President’s speech added to the enjoyment of the 2016 OF Northern Gathering held in the garden of Dorothy’s and Douglas’s house in Sedbergh.  Click here to see a full write up and some more pictures.

Please contact Norman or Colin if you would like further details.

William Henry Hewitt VC (1894-1900) - plaque unveiling

Hewitt - picture (170x137)
UPDATE : A wonderful ceremony was held in Copdock on 17 September 2017 to mark the centenary of his VC award. Village Recorder, Jennifer Jones, put together a wonderful day.  The weather that day was a dramatic reminder of the far worse conditions which prevailed on the Menin Road to the north east of Ypres on Thursday 20th September 1917, as former Copdock resident Cpl William Henry Hewitt won the Victoria Cross during the third battle of Ypres, near Passchendaele.

You can see the programme, leaflet on his life and many pictures take on the day by looking at the Distinguished biography - click here.

OF golfers beaten by Aldeburgh GC - 23 September 2017

Golf Society Logo
Hugh Curle, OFGS Captain writes: “A good day, good weather and excellent company was had by all as the Old Framlinghamians took on Aldeburgh Golf Club in the annual fixture. The OFs had Harry Dorber making his debut and Ben Swinburn playing in his second event,  having started off in winning ways with Norman Porter’s victorious Runyard Trophy  team earlier in the month;  both had left the College this summer. Unfortunately the OF’s suffered a setback on the course, losing 6-2 to the hosts."
