SOF Norfolk Supper - Thursday 8th November 2018

The supper is being organised again by Colin Wigg at Bawburgh Golf Club on Thursday 8 November. Chris Essex will be speaking and this will be an occasion specially dedicated to WW1 and the College involvement, just 3 days before the national commemoration.

OF Rifle Club undertook their first overseas tour

As well as Sandy Walker winning a Commonwealth Bronze Medal and Jon Ford & James Mehta representing GB Vets in South Africa, the OF Rifle Club undertook their first overseas tour taking part in the Jersey Open Meeting May 2018.

OFs win Haileybury 6s Hockey Again

Huge congratulations to the OF team at the Haileybury 6s last weekend where they won the tournament in 2016 and were runners up last year.  Great achievement.

Former Head Boy dies

Jeremy Page (K62-70) died on 28th August 2018, aged 67 years, after a long battle with Alzheimers. There is a YouTube video, which shows a short BBC South interview with Jeremy and Josephine in 2015.  The interview clearly shows Jeremy’s fortitude.

The funeral was held on 14th September at St Saviour’s Church, Brockenhurst, close to his recent home. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, together with a son and a daughter and two stepsons. 

There will be a full obituary in the Yearbook but you can see a link to the order of service here.  The OFs were well represented, with Tim Bailey, James Wheildon, Chris Marsh (plus wife, Fenny), John Washtell (plus wife, Anne), Maurice Wonnacott, Michael Barrett, and Peter Barker all present. Joint OF Wedding on 8 September 2018

Guy Jenkinson (K69-76) proudly writes : "My daughter Camilla Jenkinson (P08-10) married Captain Raynor Shelmerdine-Hare (R00-09) at St Peters Church Yoxford last Saturday.  Both are OFs as is the Father of bride me !  Also Hannah Gardner (P08-10) was chief bridesmaid !!! And good contingent of school chums in attendance."

SOF Suffolk Lunch - 20 October 2018

The Suffolk gathering will again be a lunch and will take place at Framlingham College Preparatory School, Brandeston Hall on Saturday 20th October 2018. As in recent years the meal will be in a buffet format. The cost will be £12 per head, payable in advance by cheque or BACS.

The full timetable for the day will be:

11:00am    Council Meeting including the induction of new Hon OFs  (Classrooms 17 & 18).  Tea and Coffee available in The White and Black Hall

12 noon     Cash Bar open in The White and Black Hall until 3.00pm.

1:00pm       Buffet Lunch (Dining Room and Hobbies Room if needed)

Booking for the lunch is essential, as we need to know numbers. Lists will be closed on October 12th.

OF makes England debut on track

Bob Williams (Hon OF) writes "Former UK U.15 Cross-Country Champion, John Bird (G01-08), made a significant advance in his running career, by earning his first England vest, on the track, in the Men’s 800m event at the 3rd Manchester International, on 15 August. John (seen here far Right), finished a creditable 3rd. John has an impressive personal best time of 1m 47.79, set in June 2017, at the British Athletics Championships. He is currently studying at Loughborough for his Ph.D (In ‘Self-control and Endurance Sport Performance’!) while, at the same time, seeking to further his career at this centre of sporting excellence. Keep up the hard work John... We look forward to see you modelling that cherished GB vest before too long!"

WW2 Veteran Leonard "David" Brook dies

Leonard David Brook (S36-40) died on 9 August 2018 at the age of 94.  Following a private family cremation there will be a Service of Celebration for his life at Sts. Peter & Paul’s Church, West Mersea, CO5 8QD at 12 noon on Wednesday 19th September. After the service all are invited to West Mersea Yacht Club for drinks and a buffet lunch.

David was last at the College at the Fowler Pavilion opening on 21 October 2017 and had a first meeting with Ken Mayhew  (R29-34). David was a Glider Pilot on the main push over the Rhine in Operation Varsity  on 24 March 1945 and edited the GPRA Eagle magazine for 30  years.
