Thanks to Colin Wigg (G48-54), we have the following based on an article in The Eastern Daily Press:

Normandy veteran, Ken Mayhew, now aged 103, has long been a keen supporter of Norwich City Football Club. The Norwich City goalkeeper during the 2019/20 season is Tim Krul, a Dutchman. In January 2020 Ken was invited as guest of honour to the away match versus Tottenham Hotspur, at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium. And a special event ensued.

SOF President awarded an MBE

AIRVICE-MARSHALSIMONDOUGHERTYG60-67 - MBE Announcement photo - small
We are delighted to announce that our President Simon Dougherty (G60-67), has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his service to the Armed Forces community and military charities, in the New Year Honours list.

Simon said: "I was absolutely astounded and delighted. I feel that it is one for the superb team who work at all levels within the RAF Benevolent Fund, who deliver the help and support to members of the RAF Family.  I spent my career in the air force initially as a doctor and later at higher management levels but the objective was always to look after and ensure people are as fit as possible to do their jobs and that includes their welfare.“

He is the longest-standing trustee of the RAF Benevolent Fund and following a 40-year career as a doctor in the Royal Air Force, joined the Board of Trustees in 2012 and became Chairman of the Main Grants Committee and the Welfare Committee.

Alongside this work, he has been a committed supporter of several other military charities including as Governor (trustee) of Royal Star and Garter Homes for 15 years and Honorary Air Commodore of 4626 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

As well as being President of the SOF for the second time, he is also a governor at the College and serves as vice-chairman of his local parish council. He will receive his honour at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace next year.

This distinguished article link will be updated shortly on Simon's illustrious career.

2019 Framlinghamian now available online

2019 framlinghamian front cover - small
An on-line version of The 2019 Framlinghamian, produced with improved software, is now available here.

Simon Dougherty, SOF President writes: The College is planning to switch publication of The Framlinghamian from a printed magazine to an on-line version. This change is not absolute, as a printed copy will be available to those who request it, as before. However, in the interests of reducing costs, it is hoped that many OFs will opt for the on-line version from 2020.

Because each individual’s default setting will remain a printed copy, it’s vital that you make clear your preference for an on-line version if the anticipated savings are to be realised. To make your choice, please complete this form and return to me by post to: President of the Society of Old Framlinghamians, c/o Framlingham College, Framlingham, Suffolk IP13 9EY or send a scanned copy to me at President@oldframlinghamian.com. An early response would be much appreciated.

Overseas Bag 2019

David Copeman (3) - small
Chris Essex (K69-75) writes: The 2019 Framlinghamian is now starting to land on doormats in the UK and will shortly start arriving abroad.  As usual it will contain a heavily edited version of all the news and photos I have received over the last year from OFs around the world.  For your Christmas reading I have now published the full version of the Overseas Bag for 2019 in the People section of the website. This full edition runs to 29 pages distilled from over 300 emails received/sent over the last year.  It will be emailed to all overseas OFs in the next few days.

The photo featured in this news article shows David Copeman (K42-49) with his wife Ann, being looked after by Bob Holland (R57-65) while visiting Malaysia on a world cruise.

I hope we will see an increased number of reunions being organised around the world in 2019.  As always I will help with mailing lists and publicity but can’t promise to be able to attend them all! If you are interested in helping/attending then please get in touch with me via email
