OF launches book on Framlingham during WW2

John Bridges - book on WW2 (116x170)
The new book by John Bridges (S57-66), is now on sale. It was reviewed in the East Anglian Daily Times by former editor Terry Hunt (K68-75), who described it as ‘always engaging, sometimes surprising and very evocative.’ It tells the amazing story of the town during the Second World War. There is much about the College, including headmaster William Whitworth and his attempt to assist with the Dunkirk evacuation, the move to Repton when invasion seemed imminent, and his ultimate departure after refusing to act as a civilian rather than a combatant

The book which costs £20 has 152 pages and over 160 images, many in colour - click here for a wonderful aerial view of castle and College at that time. Now available in local bookshops, or for signed copies please contact John on: framww2@gmail.com or telephone 01728 723557.

An invittation to watch 1st XV rugby

College Crest
Harry Bureau, who is 1st XV Rugby Captain this year at the College writes "It gives me great pleasure to invite you to a midweek fixture on Thursday 22nd November. We will be playing Bishop’s Stortford High School at 2:30 pm on Lord's.

This year, the team has shown great potential by winning six matches, and it is my overriding goal to create a positive rugby culture at the College. Therefore, we feel that if we are able to acquire support from Framlinghamiams of all ages, we will move closer towards elevating the reputation of rugby at the College and encourage future generations of Framlinghamians to follow suit.  We hope that as many of you can make it and we would very much appreciate your support.

SOF Norfolk Supper 2018

Norfolk Supper 2018 - 3 (170x128)
Colin Wigg (G48-54) writes : A record number of 49 diners signed up for the evening and it was particularly pleasing to have a full table of 'younger‘ OFs in addition to the Norfolk regulars. Our President John Ellerby welcomed everyone and thanked all OFs and their guests for their support. Given we were meeting just three days prior to the National Centenary Remembrance, grace by Norman Porter very well reflected the occasion as did Chris Essex's thought provoking talk after the meal.

OF in Cenotaph march past

Guy Jenkinson - Cenotaph 2018 - photo only (170x165)
Guy Jenkinson (K69-76) was extremely proud to have led the 16th/5th The Queen’s Royal Lancers past the Cenotaph on Sunday 11 November 2018.  It was particularly poignant in that the last British soldier to be killed in action in WW1 was George Ellison, from 5th Royal Irish Lancers.

In this picture Guy is 3rd from right in front row.

OF launches Contemporary Print Fair

Jack Bullen - INVITE-FINAL-AMMEND (120x170)
Jack Bullen (G03-08) writes “Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair was set up in November 2016 by my wife Lizzie Glendinning and myself in the Royal Arsenal. As a printmaker myself I was keen to promote a medium that is very often overlooked and miss-understood. At the time no other fair in the UK dedicated much thought to the contemporary printmaking scene and we wanted to challenge this by setting up an annual fair that could showcase how rich, dynamic and innovative the printmaking scene was.

The first fair had just under 100 exhibitors taking part having been individually approached and invited by Lizzie and myself. We had a multitude of excited artists getting in touch following the fair and we launched our first international open call last year showcasing over 200 artists in total.

Having relocated to a premises three times the size of last years fair we were able to open up booths to partnering galleries such as the Royal Academy and Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. The total number of exhibitors this year passes 350”.

4th OF Reunion in Germany - Dusseldorf

German Dinner 2018 (170x130)
After three hugely successful dinners over the past years German OFs assembled for the fourth time over a reunion dinner on November 10th in Duesseldorf. The date was chosen with care as the 100th anniversary of the Armistice in Compiègne and Saint Martin’s eve provided a poignant background to celebrate the harmony, friendship and unbreakable bond between British and German OFs brought to us by Framlingham College.
