Battle of the Somme Remembrance - College Chapel

Somme Remembrance (170x84)
As the Nation remembered the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago, and mourns the dead in the worst battle in British Army history; Framlingham College remembered those 15 students and two staff members from the College who gave up their lives. Students from Framlingham College held a memorial service soon after day break on the 1st July – the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme. The names of the 17 Framlinghamians were read out and a candle was lit in memory of those who gave up their lives that we might have peace and freedom in Europe today. The College Chaplain closed the service with a prayer of thanks for those who gave up their lives for others and a pledge that they will be remembered.

Of the 15 pupils and 2 masters killed during the 141 days of the Battle of the Somme, 2 pupils and a master died on the very first and bloodiest day, along with 19240 others. The pupils were FML Matthews and WW Bagshawe and the master was AV Ratcliffe.  Click on their names to see more details.  There are also some more pictures here.
