ORIGINAL: Christina Johnston-Myachin (V 01-06), whose stage name is Christina Myachina, took part in the 2012 International Mozart Singing Competition held in Prague this August. Mozart had a strong connection with Prague, and many of his compositions were written there.
She got through two preliminary rounds into the final, which was held at the Estates Theatre in Prague, where the judges were directors and conductors from various Opera houses around Europe, and the head conductor from The National Theatre, Prague, who conducted the orchestra in the final.
In the final, Christina sang The Queen of the Night’s famous aria “Der Holle Rache”. She was up against professionals who sing all over the world, so competition was really stiff.
She was very pleased to came in 3rd place behind two singers of much greater experience - both of them over in their mid-thirties!
Following the competition, she has performed in a week of winners’ concerts, which have all been filmed for Czech Television and for radio broadcasts.
Christina is now preparing for her role as Queen of the Night at The State Opera in Prague, which begins in the Autumn.
