A Thanksgiving & Memorial Service to celebrate his life was held in the Chapel of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, at 2pm on Thursday 4th February 2010. A full write up on those attending can be read here

OFs present at the Memorial Service were : David Mason (President), Jim Blythe, Nigel Burnip, Charles Carter, Chris Essex, Gerald Garnett, Peter Howard-Dobson; Simon Howard Dobson, James Howard-Dobson; Alaistair  Howard Dobson, Alex Howard-Dobson, Peter Liell, Barry Lorkin, Tim Mitchell, Richard Overend, Norman Porter, John Rankin, Brian Rosen, Simon Rosen, James Ruddock-Broyd (and Mrs Christine Ruddock-Broyd), Richard Sayer, John Stevens, Richard Vaughan Griffiths, Andrew Wright, plus Andrew Fane (Hon OF and Chairman of Governors), Bill Rimmer (Governor), Selwyn Prior (Former Governor), Bob Williams (Hon OF - formerly a master at Brandeston).

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our most distinguished OFs, General Sir Patrick Howard-Dobson GCB (R33-40) on Remembrance Sunday. He had been in hospital briefly, but was recovering well, when he had a gentle heart attack and died peacefully.

The following notice has appeared in the Telegraph “On Remembrance Sunday, 8th November 2009, peacefully after a short illness. Chorister, sportsman, soldier and endless volunteer, he leaves behind a large family proud of his many achievements. A Memorial Service will be arranged in due course. The funeral, for family and friends, will be held on Tuesday 24th November at 2 p.m., at St John the Baptist Church, Snape, Suffolk. Family flowers only, please, but donations are welcomed to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, c/o Tony Brown's Funeral Service, Saxmundham, Suffolk, IP17 1EH. Enquiries, tel: 01728 603108.

The following comment by me was printed in the Times online: "No mention after his retirement, of Framlingham College nor the Sail Training Association. I felt privileged to consider him a friend, but I know that hundreds, if not thousands of others who worked with him or for him felt the same."
