David Turnbull, OFGS Secretary, reports:
Halford Hewitt Tournament at Royal Cinque Ports GC on Thursday, 10th April 2008
Framlingham lost 1-4 in the first round to Glenalmond. The match was once again surprisingly close as, when we lost our third match, we were about to close out with wins in the other two, but, under the rules, these had to be halved: 2-3 would have been a fairer reflection of the team’s efforts.
The OF team was:
Gavin Cowell (Captain) & John Wybar: halved
Richard Graves & Charles Plunkett: halved
Robin Anderton & Martin Lamb: lost 7/6
Andrew Towler & Alex Cameron: lost 2/1
Brian Evans & Roger Wharton: lost 6/5
The OF side was supported by Colin Stokes (Captain OFGS), Barry Lorkin, David Turnbull and Lucille Cowell.
On Friday we played in the Princes Plate at Princes GC and beat Rossall 2-1 in the first round. Wins were recorded by Gavin & John and Andrew & Alex with Richard & Charles just losing an epic match. We lost 1-2 to Whitgift in the second round.
The society is still actively seeking OF’s, particularly young ones, with low handicaps, to play in the 1st team – please get in touch with Gavin Cowell or David Turnbull.
The Grafton Morrish Qualifying Tournament is at Knole Park GC, Sevenoaks on Saturday, 10th May 2008. We have been drawn to play with Chigwell and Hampton at 1.44pm. Supporters are most welcome.
