OF Arctic Racers to Give Talk at College on 2nd October
Back in May we reported that John Barker (Z 90-95) & Alex Henney (Z 90-95) had recently come 2nd in the 2007 Polar Race, a 300 nautical mile race from the town of Resolute in Canada to the magnetic North Pole.

Local OFs may be interested to hear that John and Alex are to give a talk at the College on Tuesday 2nd October at 6.30pm in the Headmaster Porter Theatre.

OFs who would like to attend will be most welcome and should please just call the College front desk (01728 723 289) to help them keep track of numbers. Their talk will be followed by drinks and nibbles at about 7.30pm.

The pair finished second overall, out of the 6 teams, having taken 15 days, 32 minutes & 24 seconds to cover the 337 statute miles. They ended only 6hrs 55 minutes behind the leaders, but several days ahead of the third place team. The two men encountered temperatures as low as -36 degrees in their tent, and were punished by windchill taking the temperature to as low as -78 degrees.

The amazing experience saw the two deal with polar bears attempting to enter their tent, as well as covering an huge 35 miles in just 17 3/4 hrs over horrendous terrain.
