Teams of three pairs, playing scratch foursomes, with stableford scoring
Gavin Cowell’s first team is to be congratulated on successfully qualifying for the knockout stages of the Grafton Morrish Tournament to be held at Hunstanton and Brancaster between 5th and 7th October 2007. This was our first success in qualifying since the run of three consecutive years from 1996-1998.
Playing at Knole Park GC in the South East regional qualifying round on Saturday 12th May in very blustery and showery conditions, the team achieved the excellent result of equal 3rd out of 8 qualifiers from a total of 20 public school old boy teams with a
score of 79 points. This was only 5 behind the leaders who both scored 84, with the lowest score being 60.
The team consisted of Richard Cullinan & Charles Plunkett (26), Gavin Cowell & Alex Cameron (30) and Martin Lamb & Robin Anderton (23).
The team was ably supported by Lucille Cowell, Emma, Alex’s girlfriend, Barry Lorkin and David Turnbull.
