Dateline Aldeburgh - 21st March 2005 Kirsty (P 90-03)and her team reversed last year's defeat by Oxford with a resounding eight and a half to a half victory at Aldeburgh, bringing Cambridge only their second victory in the eight years that the event has been running. She produced a true captain's performance, firstly in the morning foursomes as as she and her partner Alexandra Leriche made mincemeat of the top Oxford pair, and then in the afternoon's singles, where she followed this up with an outstanding victory over Jenny Hervey, the Oxford captain.
This was no small matter, as Jenny plays off scratch, while Kirsty plays off twelve and needed all her concentration and determination to achieve her 3 & 2 result.
Kirsty is off to Spain for the next year of her degree course, so will have to hand over the Captaincy at the end of this season - but what a great year it's been.
